How do college student-athletes find their way academically in their freshman year?
Athletic departments across America have academic success teams that focus on bringing a vast array of resources to incoming freshmen in order to make their transition to as college seamless as possible.
Divine Franklin is that person for Clemson University’s football program, one of the two most successful programs in the United States over the past 10 years or so. In this episode, Divine talks about how Clemson has built a culture of academic excellence that aligns with its on-field performance.
Divine also talks about the very real challenges freshmen student-athletes face despite having many academic resources at their disposal.
Perhaps the biggest takeaway from this episode is that student-athletes would be wise to fully utilize ALL of the resources made available by their universities.
Professionals like Divine Franklin are focused on ensuring that young men and women not only succeed on and off the field during their four years of college, but position themselves for success for 40 years after.
My suggestion to high school student-athletes would be to understand all of the resources that are available to them BEFORE arriving on campus and have a plan to maximize use of those resources when they arrive on campus.
I want to thank Divine for his kind generosity and the wisdom he shared with The Freshman Foundation Community.
